This reminds me of my bedroom where I have one of those folding chairs but in red, which kind of matches my walls. What I love about this picture is the different textures, the lightness of the whole room and the use words on the pillow. I could use this as the little nook in a workroom where there would be a small daybed. I have a tendancy of working relentlessy when I'm caught up in a project, so I would need something near by where I could flop down and catch some rest.

I had a bad week, between suffering from a bee sting and just not getting anything accomplished. It was a bad week to do anything and as you can see this is not my best illustration. In fact I had started one and that wasn't looking great either. Thank God, Allah and the Universe that this week is ending. If anything, I like the dress, I might make it sometime.

I have to everything she says makes sense, so I'll let her say it all.

I haven't done this in a while because there haven't been any movies I wanted to see very badly. Well, actually I do want to see Kick Ass and Iron Man, I might go to see Why Did I Get Married Too, although I found out how it was going to end. Anywhoo, I say these trailers and I would like to see these movies genuinely. So here we go...

Now this first one didn't movie when I heard the premise but when I heard who was in it. Chris Rock, Adam Sandler,Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, my interest got piqued. Then I watched the trailer, by the end I was exclaiming that I was going to see this. I absolutely love the last scene. LMAO.


Then there is this movie, and to look at me and then to look at this movie and the question that pops up is Why? Well I liked the notion that he is doing this little campaign to have a funeral party and have people tell him what the heard about him. I honestly want to find out how it ends. I also like Bill Murray and I love how he said the main character said the name of the movie, Get Low.


Last month or the month before, I did a post on the Back Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez. I said I was due for a J-Lo movie and I'm still pumped to see it. Anyway, I have to say the same thing for this movie but this time it "I'm due for a Queen Latifah movie." When I saw the trailer for the first time on TV, I was so excited. A movie with fine as hell Common and Queen Latifah as the love interest, I'm hyperventilating a little. I'm ashamed to say I was with a guy longer than I should because he looked like Common, a damn shame. I must second the oppinion of Peter Rallis of Movie Buzz in saying that they put too much in the trailer. Gosh, leave something for us to watch on the big screen. Anyway, here's the trailer:

Well, for the last couple days I have been blue. I think it was the culmination of a certain aunt visiting, a stupid act on my part and being stung on the under side of my foot by a bee on Sunday. The bee sting is still bothering me, I didn't know you had to squeeze out the venom as well as pull out the stinger.

Anywho, enough of that back to the topic of this post. While on YouTube, I came across a Madonna song, Like A Prayer and it stripped about what 18 years off of my consciousness. It took me way back and it made me seek out more of her songs and videos. That song was first song I ever liked of hers. I don't even think I'm a Madonna fan but I have to give her respect and a Wayne's World "I'm not worthy for all that she accomplished of the last... what 2-3 decades? Not many people can say that. As a woman who has accomplished so much, she is my shero.

So below are my absolutely favourite Madonna songs and videos. That is another thing about her is she made some really cool videos, and the second to last one, Frozen, I liked that so much that I bought the cd. I had a rule when buying cds, I had to like more than one song on it before I bought it. Here are the videos:











I threw this one because it shows this woman is rocking it out at 51. Go on with her bad self! I feel so under-accomplished. Must go out and do my thang! LOL.


Last note: I'm not going to lie to you but I like Lady Gaga, but do I see her lasting as long as Madonna? To be honest, she's going to have to work and she's going to have to keep bringing us something new to keep us coming back. But if she doesn't and she fizzles in the end, at least it was a fun ride.

So I'm going through my email a couple days ago and I came across a newsletter which lead me to this blog post, If your life were a movie, would you want to watch it? and my answer automatically was no. Honestly, I would be so upset with the main character and frustrated with her and then I would either leave the cinema or change the channel. Not to mentioned annoyed, asking questions like, why isn't she doing more with her life? Isn't she due for an adventure just about now? How about a life changing situation that forces her to change her life? Talk about a wake up call.

I think my last major adventure was about four years ago when I went to Cuba for vacation. It covered the whole seeing new places, meeting new people, having a great time and getting in touch with myself. It also taught me that I was living without a personality. Not saying I wanted to fit into a particular box, but I was an undefined person. Then somehow after I came back I fell deeper into being a non-person in my eyes anyway. I guess I adapted to my surrounding and quietly died without knowing it. I don't blame my surroundings, it's just the way it is.

Also it didn't help that I fell into the pressures of starting a family, which means, finding a man. Honestly, that was too much trouble and although I learned from the experience, I could do without it. Looking back I would have rather gone on more trips and had more fun.

So how am I going to change this pickle of a situation? Well, for one I need to dress the part, have more fun with my clothes and play with make up. I used to play with make up when I was a kid and for the life of me I can't unsubscribe from the make up tutorial channels on YouTube. I'm going to continue working on my collection, but I'm going to push myself when it comes to the styles. I'm also working on the t-shirt project and illustrating. The one thing that is really missing for me is travel.

There are two trips I want to do, V to V, Vancouver to Vegas and Paris to Berlin. If I could get those two trips under my belt, I could give up on the other places like Tokyo, Australia, etc.

Yes, it would be nice to have a little romance in the movie, but it's got to be the real deal. I would like the girl meets boy and they spend time talking and having adventures, even if is trying escargot for the first time.

It's one thing to say how I would like to live my life, but the time has come for me to live it. Time to work out how I'm going to fit everything in. I will get there, or die trying.

I like the whimsy.

When I was a kid, we used to sit on the floor. It's not as though we did have a chair set or that it wasn't comfortable, we just sat on the floor. Especially when we watched TV. Maybe it didn't hurt that we were more flexible and close to the floor. Anyway this is something that would have been useful growing up, floor cushions. I think this is something I will have in my future house but stow them away in a storage device.

This one is actually from Apartment Therapy's DYI project. I am so going to do this in a couple years.

When I lived in Italy I used to order and make Ciocolato Molto Denso. It's really thick hot chocolate, almost like pudding but hot. *Homeresque drooling here* This reminds me of it.

I don't know why but I'm drawn to small spaces. Maybe because less time to clean or because I'm not big on having things that I don't need. In fact, I am a pack rat that is trying to quit. Anyway Apartment Therapy is doing a contest called Smallest, Coolest Home Contest and here are a few interiors I like.


I like this floor plan, but I would like to extend it a bit to fit in two rooms, an extra bedroom and a work room/guest room. And I am most definitely having a wrap around verandah, with a swing seat so as to chill out and enjoy the view.

I know I learned something like this in home ec, but I always have an inkling that I'm not doing it right. So now I will never have to worry, I will always have this to refer to. At least, I was positive that you start from in out in terms of using the utensils.

Ok, I must admit this is one of my favourite illustrations. I like that I executed the pose well and I like the colour combinations. I like that I got the attitude and how there is the very staid army colours being the background for the red gloves and the hot pink balloon.

It's really nice that I'm going in the right direction but I still need a few things to get even better. For instance, I'm going to hunt down either this pen

or a get a pot of white ink so that I can clean up where the marker or pen line goes astray and they would give great highlights. Also I'm not completely happy with my line quality, and a fellow 20something blogger, Tim DeMoor told me about using black waterproof India ink. So that is something else I'm going to hunt down.

I'm getting there, just don't ask me where there is.

Have you ever seen into the future? Okay, it's not the kind of question I normally ask any and every body, but let me explain my self.

Between the ages of, oh say.. 13 and, well now, I've had dreams. I don't mean the MLK Jr kind of dreams, the kind of dreams that seem so real that you can't tell the difference between them and reality. The strange thing about those dreams, well, they've come true.

There was the time the family was suppose to be going to Miami for the summer vacation. A couple months before, I had a dream about visiting a friend in NY. At the time I had only one friend in NY. I didn't think much of the dream because we were going to Miami. Now you know in dreams, once you wake up you forget the dream, well these dreams stick and every single detail is remembered. Anyway, summer came and at the last moment our plans changed and guess where we were going. Yesiree, NYC. Then we were visiting my friend, what blew my mind was every single thing was like my dream and I never been to her place before. This was like being bitchslapped by deja vu.

Okay, so maybe this was a one off thing, a fluke. Nope, I saw the streets near where I lived in Italy, I saw my apartment in Brooklyn, and there were moments so finite and small that I never even took notice of them.

I'm writing all of this because it is associated with a couple mistakes I made in Italy, nah, they weren't bad, OH MY GOD, what did I do mistakes. More like I just wish I didn't make them mistakes. I guess it's the lessons I should be valuing instead of lamenting about the mistakes.

While I was in college in NYC, I had this dream where I was on the back of a motorcycle or something and this guy and I were speeding through these small streets and somehow it felt like something out of X-men, but the rush was incredible and I was so excited. Well, it was my favourite dream at the time. Later that year, I went to Italy for a study abroad program and they assisted us in finding housing. I had gone and looked at an apartment and it was so cute and I could see myself there. I walked back from viewing it smiling. The next day another girl from the program mentioned that she was interested in it, (here's mistake #1)with that said I figured she was going to get it. In the end she didn't. Then I was asked by a friend of a friend to share a place (mistake #2). The thing is the person wasn't a bad person, it's just by making those two mistakes, I didn't fulfill my dream and it left me bitter and, I will admit it, a bitch. A couple of weeks later I was walking to the other section of the campus and it was the same way to the apartment. It was the same streets as my dream.

In the end I didn't fulfill my dream and I went against my chracter as a person who lives on their own. I tried to do the right things by others and ended up suffering in the end. Yes, you can put others before yourself, but not to your detriment. On that stay in Italy, I went against my dreams, and although I did have some good memories of my study abroad it could have been a whole lot better.

In the end, I will be heeding the dreams that come in technicolour. Some of them are warnings. I will also be deciding the direction I go in my life. Life is a wonderous thing and some things we won't understand completely, but do we really need to understand it? I guess that is where having faith comes in.

I am such a fan of The Sartorialist and he is doing this contest where he is asking his readers to send in old pictures of stylish people. I immediately fell in love with the styles and I grew to love high wasted skirts and pants. To me it suits a woman's shape better than the low waisted styles. Don't get me wrong I still love a low waisted flared skirt a la gypsy and sarongs. Anywho, here are some of the pics from The Sartorialist. in the midst of thinking

You can tell I'm not into an illustration when I don't use flash. I felt like I was mixing different genres without mastering them. I over saturated the image with colour and did not anchor it with neutral tones. It doesn't help that some of the colours I was reaching for were done for, therefore tossed out, or on their way to the trash. I think I'm going to have to buy even more markers, even though I got some on my birthday. To be honest the purple and the yellow are new markers. Also I was enthusiastic about the pencil drawing and the pose, but as I got to laying down colour, I became more and more disatisfied. And don't get me started on the hair, if you notice, it has a halo, there was a russian hat on her before I flipped the script. Ugh.



If you haven't notice already, I'm pretty hard on myself, but I've learned the lesson. I will be working on Technique and mastering at least one that I absolutely love. Also I want to work on faces, they always end up being the same, well to me anyway. I guess back to the drawing board.

I'm changing it up a bit by eliminating the use of coloured pencils and going towards a comic book way of illustrating.

I already knew that I had to eat better but this show put everything into perspective. I know my metabolism has slowed down but I think I'm going to have to change the way I eat and exercise. Check out the clips and think about it.

I'm sure it was over 10 years ago when my brother gave me my first Erykah Badu cd, and I played it over and over. She became my first favourite singer. Over the years I bought her cds except the last one. I found this clip on my sister's blog. I grew to like her more. Not so much the song but her body. Like her I was a skinny minny, but I've filled out and am now blessed with an arse. I'm glad to see someone like me in terms of the morphing of the body. So enough of the sappy stuff, enjoy the video.

polish artist kordian lewandowski has taken inspiration from michelangelo famous la pieta sculpture and reinterpreted it using nintendo characters. lewandowski's sculpture features mario and princess in place of jesus and mary from michelangelo’s. named ‘game over’, the piece is made from polystyrene foam that lewandowski carved in full scale using a chainsaw at first and more precise tools to finish. while the sculpture may not be included in an art history book, it showcases one of the most iconic sculptural subjects of the renaissance re-contextualized using the storyline of mario instead of the bible.

Now the main reason, or I should say reasons, I posted this is because it features three things I love:

Modern Art
I loved that he took two things that were recognizable by two separate groups and created a beautiful piece. Art afficionados, well those who are into the classics like Michangelo, aren't really into video games. And not many video gamers would have a strong interest in major works of art. I think this piece can bridge the gap and introduce both types of people to each others world.

I also like that he used foam as it is not a common or formal medium and yet he made it light and smooth. Definitely visit the Design Boom website to see how he made this.

The Inspiration For The Piece
During my study abroad in Italy, I made the trek down to Rome and got to see the Sistine Chapel and all the awe inspiring sites. And off in a side room thing was this



The room was quiet and no one was in it and I fell in love with this sculpture. The way it gleams in the soft light. Each fold of the fabric perfect, the elements of the human body exact. I even bought a small souvenir version of it and it sits on my dressing table. And I'm not even religious, but I do appreciate great work.

Gamer For Life
Granted I never played Super Mario on Nintendo, me and the controls just don't agree. I am more of a computer game player, so it was a blessing and a curse when I was introduced to Super Mario on the computer. I tore that up. I kicked ass, then I stopped because I was only using one addiction to cure another, and decided to focus on work. I have to limit myself now.
