"If I should have a daughter, instead of Mom, she's gonna call me Point B ... " began spoken word poet Sarah Kay, in a talk that inspired two standing ovations at TED2011. She tells the story of her metamorphosis -- from a wide-eyed teenager soaking in verse at New York's Bowery Poetry Club to a teacher connecting kids with the power of self-expression through Project V.O.I.C.E. -- and gives two breathtaking performances of "B" and "Hiroshima."

As I mentioned a couple posts back, I now have a Tumblr dedicated to my baby of a project called Lulu Approved and while going through my sister's tumblr I came across this video.



First of all, OMG!!! I need to see more. I need to throw on my heels and practice walking in them until I reach the point where I can dance in them. I need to take the pain like a champ. I'm now speechless so I'll load you down with facts.

This is pretty cool, there is a couple elements that remind me of Fred Astaire, but the last part was so embarrassing.

Based on the silence, I guess I got my answer. You see I’m working on a theory that there is more than one version of a person. There is who the person thinks they are, the person others perceive that person to be and who the person really is. The question is “Is the true person a combination of all the versions mentioned above?”

The question I asked yesterday was to let me see myself through other people’s eyes. Now here is where I become venerable, I don’t like the person I am. I never did, well that’s a lie, I never thought that I would/could/should “like” myself. You see a few things happened when I was a kid and the last one was what pretty much shut me down. Imagine a pea dropping on a snowy mountaintop and starts rolling. Before you know it you have a six foot snowball. What I’m doing now is taking a flame thrower and destroying the snowball and the pea.

In a way, I’m rebooting the Kimolisa operating system in Safe Mode, removing the virus that I’ve been living with for the last 20+ years and restarting the system. Some applications would be deleted, but I think I can live with that.

The fact that I haven’t gotten a response to the question lets me know that I have a lot of work ahead. This should be very interesting because I’m just trying to be a better person and live a better life.

I know there is already a movie about this topic already out, but this movie looks funnier and it refers to a lot of pop culture that I can relate to.


I have a secret........... I loved The Hangover, and they said this movie is like the female version of the Hangover, so you know I'm going to watch it. Plus, the trailer made me bust out laughing

Can you imagine, the yanks are planning to bring this to the states but it will either be done over or shown with subtitles. Didn't the learn from Let the Right One In, stick to the original and if needs be, put in subtitles. Bless their hearts, and I still love you yanks.

I stumbled across something like this in the same Union Square, and although it's great to see it online, it's even better when you're there. There is this great energy in the air and it inspires you to do what you do. Just great, when I was suppressing my homesickness for NYC.

My sister showed me this trailer on Sunday and I must say I want to see this, but there is a problem. Well more like a couple.

• This movie is old, about 3 years old;
• The only movies that come down to Antigua are blockbusters and those targeted to our demographic, for example anything by Tyler Perry;
• This is an international film, ipso facto, it ain't going to be shown down here.

So I'm thinking wouldn't it be cool to make a club of sorts that screens cool international films. The members would prepare a list of movies they would like to see, all the members would vote on which movies to watch over a six month period. Perhaps break up the films into genres, romance, action, drama, comedy and for the daring R & NC rated movies. There could also be a month dedicated to Caribbean films. Of course the films would have to be old so that they can be bought online or rented on something like Netflicks. Also movie nights would be advertised and members would watch movies free and the public would pay a fee, say $5 - $10 to view the movie. Below is a movie I would definitely want to see and on a big screen.

The one thing that sold me was the last scene. They worked for my $10.00EC in that last scene of the trailer.

To start, I am a Queen fan, I was even a fan before I knew who they were as I loved the music. By stating the above explains why I posted this Ted Talk. For those who don't know Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", shame on you!!! I kid, I kid, but click here, here and here to clue you in.

I'm hemming and hawing if I should reveal a project I've been working on for a while. It's pretty much my baby and it's near (so near) to becoming a reality. To give you a little hint, I've created a blog for it on Tumblr and the title of this post is the title for the blog.

I've been resistant to creating a Tumblr blog, as I've already have two blogs already, but this blog is too personal to use as a business blog, so I the opportunity arrived for me to create a Tumblr Blog for the biz. To get the gist of the project, scroll down to the first post which is called A Brief Introduction. Every now and then I will post something on this blog in relation to that blog.

I'll be honest, it's not my favourite.

You know it's the truth

I came across this project through kind over matter and had to share. With the media throwing images of the so called ideal, we forget that we are beautiful. This images in The I Am Beautiful Project, reminded me that beauty can be found in everybody. Below are some of the pictures from the site and this is what the project is all about:

Whoever reads this, you're beautiful and someone out there is crazy about you. So smile. Life is too short to be unhappy.

I was asked to make a video for self-harm awareness day on the 1st of march, and I thought about what to do, and then decided where better to do it then here on flickr with the most creative, beautiful, inspiring minds out there. One in ten people have harmed by the age of sixteen and approximately three teenagers self injure every hour in the UK, mainly because they don’t feel like they’re enough. I want you to all know you are, you are all beautiful as you are, and you have something no one else ever can, and that’s you.

But instead of boring you all with more statistics I will tell you about the project. I started a project last year called The Around The World Project, where I found out loads of fun facts about your countries. But in this project I want to find out more about you, the people of flickr. I want your photos to represent you as people, if you’re silly wear a funny wig or glasses, if you’re crazy cover yourself in paint, if you love cats let your pets join you in your photo. I want it to represent your personality completely, be as crazy and imaginative as you like. Like the Around the world project, I would like written in the photo (on paper or on your body or wherever) the words ‘I am Beautiful’ because you all are so damn beautiful! :p Please try and get the photo added to the group by the 1st of March, which is when I will be making the video to bring people out there a little more confidence and hope for self harm awareness day, if you want to take part in the project but won’t be able to get a photo done by then you are still invited to add your photo in the group later on as I will leave it open! I guess all that is left to say now is have fun and i hope to find out more about you all!

To say I'm a fan of Street Etiquette is an understatement. I'm always checking out their tumblr because the imagery and I am growing to love well dressed men. Anyway, the last time I was on the tumblr I found this download that reminds me why I love spoken word. I’ve been writing poetry for years now and for a while thought it was relegated to books and magazines. Then Def Poetry Jam came out and I saw the movie “So I Married An Axe Murderer” that opened my mind to the potential of poetry shared through speech. I especially liked it when it was set to music.

Also, this is one of the things in life that makes me genuinely happy. Back in FIT, I would listen to a Jazz station while I did my work in my room. One day, they played this collaboration with a poet and a jazz band and it was an aha moment. A moment that you enjoy and cherish and you leave yourself open to experience it again. I experience it live when one of the organizers for Expressions: Poetry at the Pub, Zahra Airall, read one of her pieces while Promise, a talented local singer/musician/songwriter, played guitar. I don’t know about the others but I enjoyed it completely. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or energy to pursue that form of art form right now, hopefully in the future.

I saw this and was blown away. I think I'm loving this is because they are executing the moves so well. Such control of their bodies and letting the dance exist through them. If ever my future kids want to dance, I will be behind them wholeheartedly. Oh, and the cutie below was too cute not to post.

Well, it is official John Galliano is out and to be honest I am a little sad. He was one of those designers who made fashion art, and although it's not my personal style in terms of design and how I would dress, I still gave respect where it's due.

When I first heard that Galliano was arrested for verbally abusing fellow patrons in a cafe and using racial slurs, my first thought was that is wrong. You don't call people out like that no matter how upset you are. I know I should have spoken up in the many fashion forums where people were defending him and lashing out at Dior for suspending him. Then again who am I to tell people what to think and if they believe he can do no wrong, that is their belief. My position is if it got to the point where he was arrested, there had to be a valid reason. Also I know only of his genius on the runway, but it's not as though we hang out together and I know how he thinks and his oppinions on various issues. With that said, I don't vouch for people if I don't know them personally, I had to learn that the hard way.

Then an actual video came out and that is when everyone and their mother had to concede that maybe he's not the person we thought he was. Alot of people had to basically admit that they had bet on the wrong horse. The only thing is until just recently, I didn't see the video and I had to search for that bad boy. At last, I found it here on the Huffington Post Style section.

Now this is where I get a bit twisted. I feel sorry for him. To me, he appears to be prodded on by the ladies laughing. He appears obviously drunk and trying to lash out at the laughers. Is what he's saying right and proper? Hell no!! If you are proud of who you are in all your eccentricity and a bunch of people are all up in your business, simply ignore them or simply say that you are having a private conversation, thank you and goodbye.

John Galliano obviously needs help and we society, both fashion enthusiasts and non enthusiasts have to accept that such genius comes with a price. This is our second fashion icon who has left the building unceremoniously in the last two years.

Now the last I heard his personal show has been cancelled, and today the last collection by John Galliano for the House of Dior walked the runway. So, to Monsieur Galliano, a found adieu and I hope you get better.
