Honestly speaking, I'm drawing a blank as to what this Male Appreciation should be, it's such a problem that I'm actually writing this on Thursday instead of Wednesday. I must say I've been playing around with a concept and although it's not one particular aspect of men, I feel like writing about it.

So here we are, a bunch of single women, and we're asking where are all the good men, but then again what is a good man? I liken it to food, what would you think a good pizza would be like, or a good bottle of wine, the perfect chocolate cake (I mean the kind that doesn't overwhelm you with chocolate but reminds you of how luxurious the experience of eating said chocolate is). All of these are dependent on the individual, but also comes down to the question if the individual knows the difference between superficial qualities and real solid qualities.

Do we as women, or can we as women accept that a man with a hot body, cute face, six figure salary, two houses and an expensive car may not know how to treat a woman right. He might be able to catch your attention but would he keep it. Don't even get me started on men who know they have it going on and want to play at the game a little (10-15 years) while before they settle down. Plus even if the above-mentioned guy does have a heart of gold, why would he want to be you if you are not complimenting him well? Also, some of the qualities some women want in a significant other can only be found in a gay man, and that only opens them up to heart break.

Now I'm about to get new-age-y here, I apologize in advance. I kinda believe in the whole soul mate thing, but I believe that we have more than one and sometimes it's not regulated to romantic love. It could be a really good friend that just syncs with you well. I say this because throughout our lifetimes, we see so many examples of what love is suppose to be. Between novels, movies, music, commercials selling something, examples in our immediate societies. From birth we are constantly fed these ideas, and some of them are pretty twisted (in the case of abusive relationships), but do we ever stop and ask ourselves who do we, as individuals, need in our lives and what kind of relationship do we need.

Me, personally, I think I need someone who is easy going, yet adventurous, has a great sense of humour and is supportive. I need the easy going personality because I can be high strung and it would not work for both of us to be high strung, especially in arguments. I need him to be adventurous because it will help pull me away from being a workaholic, as well as they would be up to it when ever I decide it would be fun to go climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Having a great sense of humour just adds to the quality of life, I read somewhere that laughing for 15 minutes is equal to 2 hours of sleep. Plus I'm reminded of my grandma and her husband, they still make each other laugh. I see myself as a person who will be there for others, I have no problem lending an ear and the like, it's just when I need an ear, I would like someone that gets me and is willing to either give me a solution or just listen. Also may I add, I need someone I can have conversations with, my family are talkers and we can talk about anything and everything and I get a bit testy when I'm with someone and they can't maintain a conversation.

Now do those things make a man a good man? Well it is the starting point, but some non-negotiable points are

• Being respectful in general;
• Knows the basic rules of etiquette (no honey, I'm not going to go all bougie on you if you use the wrong fork, but I will be pissed if you belch in my face while scratching yourself);
• Knows no means no;
• Does not think I my soul perhaps is to cook his food and birth his babies;
• Knows never to raise his hand against a woman;
• Is financially independent. This might sound a bit on the gold digger side, but I am willing to help a person out if they are down for a short while, but I'm not supporting them on a long term basis;
• Loves me;

 The last point should be obvious, but I think there are men out there that could be with a woman and not genuinely love her. Because he doesn't love her, he would have no problem disrespecting her and as you can see respect is the first point.

I'm rambling.

Anyway, to the good men out there, I appreciate you. And whenever I come across you, please identify yourself, I'll give you a big ole hug.

Fun/Informative - Fun

I don't know about y'all, but there are times when I want to stop being an adult and be a kid again. And this is what this date is all about, being a kid, stop thinking about bills, jobs, trying to seduce the person you are out with. Just go out and have innocent, physically demanding fun.

For those who may have forgotten how to do this here are a couple ideas:

• Going to the park and going on the swings, tossing a Frisbee, kicking a football, playing one on one basketball, if adventurous, play tag;
• Go Hiking;
• Race each other and aim to win;
• Check out if the local kids' amusement places have adult nights;
• Go to an arcade;
• Dave & Buster, need I say more?
• Go to the beach and splash around;
• Play dress up and go out and shock the public;
• Do everything your parents told you to stop doing when you were around 8,9,10;

The important thing is to have fun, innocent, laughter inducing fun. Why? Well, why not? Here is a chance to show your date that you know how to have a good time. There are lots of opportunities to learn about your date, like

• Are they sore losers;
• Their strengths;
• Their weaknesses;
• If they are ticklish;
• How they laugh when they are having a good time;
• Their unique range of facial expressions, from pure happiness to being mischeivous;
• What makes them happy;

There are also opportunities to get to know them through conversation. Let's just put it this way, here is a great way to share a positive experience that will become a great memory and/or story. Maya Angelou said it best when she said

"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

 So here are some bonus helpful info:

• Don't over think it, just be like a kid and jump from one thing to another;
• If you are competing against each other, remember it's about having fun not winning or losing;
• Leave your cellphones behind or turn them off so you don't have to be pulled back into the adult world before you wanted to return;
• Remember to relax, release all your troubles, focus on what you are doing and having fun with this interesting person who is with you;
• Don't hold back, how is your date going to get to know you if you are so adamant about keeping your guard up;
• Whenever in doubt, just check out how kids behave and use that as your inspiration;

The last couple Fridays, well I should really say over the last few Fridays, I've been posting people I admire, and so far it's been a great project. The only thing is that when I do something like this I forget the point of the project. With this particular project, which is part of my Awakening Project, allows me to identify people who I admire and really understand why I admire them and take something from their lives and incorporate it in my life.

Well that is what this post is all about, I will be stating clearly what I like about the individual and/or state the trait I would like to have in my character. So from the beginning:

This post is related to Father’s Day which was this Sunday that just passed. I love to see men with kids.



It could be a man with an itty bitty baby and carrying the baby bag or holding the hands of their 5 or 6 year old. I guess it is because historically women were the primary caregivers while men either went out hunting, farming, going to the factory or to the office. So it’s not a surprise that kids gravitate to their mothers, but when I see a man with a child, I feel all warm inside.


To me that show the man is a real man. He accepts his responsibility and in some cases the responsibility of another man and makes the conscious decision to be in the life of his kid(s). That is beautiful.


On Monday night, on a local radio program, a caller said he was always put off when people told him that they were proud to see him taking his kids out to a restaurant. He said that is was only doing what he was suppose to be doing. The this is in this day and age a lot of men are not being there for their kid(s), so when people see a man being a man, it’s a welcome change that they feel should be applauded.

Now, some people might see it as being girly or woman’s work and blah, blah, blah, but let me share a thought with you. A man who can take on the roles of a woman, be it cooking, wearing the colour pink, dressing well, (I know sucky examples) and still be a man in every respect, he is very attractive. That is more attractive than men going overboard trying to convince people that he is a man.


So, men who are in their kid(s) life/lives, who looks after their emotional, as well as financial needs and give their kid(s) a good example of what a man should be, I appreciate you.
