In this accessible talk, Mathematician Hannah Fry shows how complex social behavior can be analyzed and perhaps predicted through apt analogies to natural phenomena, like the patterns of a leopard's spots or the distribution of predators and prey in the wild.

As I said last week, I was not big on watching the Olympics but I ended up watching a lot of covering compared to what I usually watch. I don't know what brings people to watch it, maybe it's some collective mind thing that somehow the whole world is connected in the act of watching the best of the best compete for glory and endorsement deal. Gosh, don't I sound cynical, please forgive me.

So here are two sports I was surprised to discover that I liked watching:

Synchronized Swimming
I have never watched synchronized swimming before, but I ended up watching it while in the bank and I could not look away. I guess in part because I can't swim to save my life, literally and these women are just performing underwater and creating something so beautiful. The strength, acrobatic skills, swimming skills and being so in synch with your team mates, I applaud these women.

I was drawn in and impressed by Spain, but I can understand why Russia won. Another aspect is the full on, almost drag queen make up, see there is a place for that full intense make up in sports. Don't get me started on the almost mean mugging, I know they are trying to create a feel or atmosphere for the piece they are doing, but sometimes they look like they are mad at somebody.

Just after righting the last Male Appreciation, I went to see Magic Mike with my sis. I know, I know, right after righting about appreciating men, I go and watch a movie about men taking it off. LOL. I'm classy like that!! Anyhoo, the movie actually inspired me to write this Male Appreciation and the topic for this week is Vulnerability in Men.

Personally, I think showing vulnerability is a gift, it's this great gift of saying I trust you with showing you the side I don't show anyone else. This is showing that you are scared of something unusual or worrying about some aspect of your life that you were suppose to have under control. Here's a secret: we are not perfect, if we were we would be dead. I mean what would be there to strive for?

Some months back, I came across a podcast and the lady brought up a concept that I never came across or never thought about. I don't even know if I can explain it correctly, but bear with me. Women are kind of like the emotional gatekeeper in the relationship. As the lady said a woman has her friends and family who she can talk to about what is bother her and to basically have a good, emotional conversation. Men don't really have that, she said that men can't go back to their wolf pack an say "I'm having a hard time at work and I'm worried about a particular project."

That's why I think communication is such an important part of a relationship. Through communication it is possible for a man to know that he can be vulnerable with the woman in his life. I know men have to work hard to prove that they are strong, that they can protect and provide for the "little woman", but it takes a truly strong man to trust and have faith in that same "little woman". Faith that she will keep the secret that you wet the bed till 4th grade or that spiders freak you out.

I guess you can say that a man showing his vulnerability is like a dog or cat showing their stomach. That's trust baby. So to the man who can be vulnerable with his woman, I appreciate you.

I'm back to the delightful streets of Japan, well through my computer, LOL. I am such a fan of Fashion Japan and here are some pics I found interesting:

First of all, let's just say that I'm shocked that I actually paid attention to the Olympic Games this year, but I did. Well I couldn't help it, it was on the TV when I visited my folks or in the bank while I'm waiting in line. I could not get away from the Olympic coverage, it was almost like it doesn't come around every four years. Anyway, enough of my bitching because I kinda enjoyed some of the sports and the personalities, so here is my little post on the Olympics.

My Say What sport - Speed walking
Yes, people, speed walking is a sport. I was sitting using the computer and I look up and there are these women speed walking. I'm there thinking "Wait, that looks like speed walking. Nah, that can't be a sport, but there it is." LOL. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the sport. I see the individuals who participate in this sport as athletes because that is no joke. 20km walking fast is no joke. While I was watching two women fainted at the finish line, another was puking at the side of the finish line. My mantra when I'm about to bitch about the athletes is "I know I can't do that so more power to them."
